Mikhail Rasputin has dealings with the Man with the Peacock Tattoo.

This was an interesting issue. While it didn’t seem to push the story further a long, it did give us some insight into what Mikhail is up to. He has some lofty plans and being in bed with XENO is not a good thing at all.

We also got to see Beast make more terrible choices. The exposition that we get in Beats scenes all but confirm that he is not the Beast we used to love. That he has become a pompous asshole, hungry for power. It really bothers me that the creative team has decided to take Beast in this direction. Yes, over the years a lot of the problems have stemmed from Beast, but one would think he would have gotten a redemption already, rather than him falling further down the rabbit hole as we see here. How does any of the psychic mutants not know or suspect what he is up to? Jean previously stopped trusting him, but she just walked away. There is no possible way that he has pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes.

I will say that I love the idea of Mikhail as one of the main adversaries for this series. He brings an interesting element, especially with Russia’s view on Krakoa. Though it is issue twenty-three and we still don’t know much about the Cerebro sword. This creative team is playing the long game, but it’s starting to feel a little too long.

Overall, this was an alright issue. Though again it feels like more of the long game with little being revealed. There were some great scenes and Mikhail is a highlight of the issue for sure. But I’m starting to lose my excitement for this series as it feels like this series is losing steam. It needs to pick up or it could lose me altogether.
