Halfway through the event and the mutants are ready for the tournament.

In this chapter we see the chosen of Arakko gather the rest of their sword bearers and get ready for the tournament. We also see the nations of Otherworld be invited to a contest of worlds. There we see them voting, as the mutants finally arrive.

This was a really interesting chapter. There was so much packed into this oversized chapter but it never felt like it dragged at any point. It was interesting to see who the sword bearers of Arakko. Some of them are very intriguing, and so this should be a very exciting tournament. Also, Saturnyne can’t be trusted at all. She obviously has some tricks up her sleeves. Especially with how she orchestrated the last few pages.

Honestly I’m not sure what to expect from this tournament. Both sides seem very capable, and there really doesn’t seem like any sort of discussion that will resolve any of it. Especially with how much it is all in motion now. I do feel that we will lose one of the mutants. It feels very telegraphed that one will fall, or at least one will and maybe more. I think the worst possible thing that could happen is the mutants lose Cypher. But what Saturnyne and Arakko don’t know is even though he’d be hesitant, Mondo could step into Cyphers shoes as a way for the mutants to communicate with Krakoa. Though that being the most obvious mutant to fall, I can’t see this creative team going that way. They like to come from leftfield rather than the obvious.

I think that is what I really like about this event, and this chapter as well. It really gets you to think, and ask questions. It is human nature to try and figure things out before it happens, but this event I feel does that even more than usual. Also these new characters are some of the most interesting new characters we have had in a long time. It also gets me wondering if they or some of them win, will they transition and remain in the x-books somehow?

Overall this midway chapter was one of the most intriguing chapters of the event. It managed to tie up the first half perfectly while getting us excited for the second half. We haven’t seen anything yet, I’m sure of that.
