This issue is a tie-in to the Empyre event. If you haven’t been reading it then you might be a little lost reading this issue. It does its best to give you a recap of the event so far.

I got halfway through this issue and I found myself wondering “why am I reading this?!” There doesn’t seem to be much relevance here except for maybe some way that Gabriel Summers might have an impact on the event. As just an ‘X-Men’ issue this book doesn’t add much. There is a bit of comedy, but it doesn’t always land how I’m sure it was intended. Gabriel is struggling with his identity, and while nothing is resolved at the end of this issue it feels exactly what this issue is... filler.

This book offers nothing and no reason to actually read it. It’s unfortunate as the x-books have just started coming out again so we are all excited to read more about our merry mutants. Well I would take this issue off and wait for the next one. X of Swords is quickly approaching and in the next couple issues we will have the lead-in to that event.

Overall this book is really only for those that want to ready everything to do with the Empyre event. Otherwise it’s a hard pass in my opinion.
