Reading through this mini series has reminded me time and time again why I fell in love with Pulp style stories in the last few years. Sometimes, all you want is a story that will have some twist and turns, sometimes seen from a mile away, that is all about adventuring and leave it at that.

That’s exactly how I feel when reading this new volume of Legenderry Red Sonja. After last issues jaunt to the center of the Earth (okay, not really, but that’s how it felt), and the final page reveal that D’Nar’s father Gath has captured Tesla and is demanding that Sonja hands over the explosive element in exchange for her crew and Tesla’s life.

Sonja, not one to be intimidated, stalls just long enough for a daring rescue to occur and for us, as the reader, to learn that not everything is at it seems!

The issue goes by at quite the clip and you actually don’t have that much time to breathe and it’s already done. That’s a sign of a great adventure comic in my book. The ending of the issue is also great as Andreyko is set to introduce one of the most prominent historical figures into the series and I can’t wait to see what comes of it.

Buchemi and Augusto team up to bring us some pretty fun art throughout the issue. It’s dynamic when it needs to be and more subdued in other parts. It may not be to everyone’s liking - it does lack polish here and there - but it conveys what it needs to convey. There are a few parts, and I stress just a few, where the backgrounds seem to have been forgotten, but otherwise, a very nice job on their part.
