Superman : Red Son (TPB)

What if an infant Superman did not crash-land in Kansas? What if instead he crash-landed in the Soviet Union to become the greatest hero Russia has ever known. That’s the concept behind this Elseworlds tale. Here’s a quote taken directly from this trade “In Elseworlds, heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places-some that have existed and others that can’t, couldn’t or shouldn’t. The result is stories that make characters who are as familiar as yesterday seem as fresh as tomorrow.” Other familiar characters, heroes and villains like Batman, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman & Green Lantern are present but their roles are different. Throw in some historic figures like Stalin, Nixon & JFK and you’ve got yourself one hell of story. Mark Millar (writer) is at his best here with a fantastic tale and an ending that will knock you on your ass! Great art from Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett. I’ve always loved the Elseworlds series because of the endless possibilities that can be accomplished with these heroes. This a gem.
