Daredevil #19

by lucstclair on October 19, 2012

Is Daredevil cracking up? Or is the new villain known as Coyote toying with him? For Foggy, there’s no doubt in his mind that his friend and partner is slowly losing his mind and as for Coyote, his methods share the same method of another of Darevevil’s foes, but more savage than before. Featuring Hank Pym.

The Team

Written by Mark Waid (Incorruptible, Irredeemable, Gatecrasher Vol. 1 : Ring Of Fire) & illustrated by Chris Samnee (Serenity : The Shepherd’s Tale, Siege : Embedded). Cover by Paolo Rivera (Avengers : Mythos). Published by Marvel Comics.

The Pros

I won’t spoil it for anyone, but the villain in this issue gets a complete makeover as writer Mark Waid transforms him into a second rate villain to a potentially lethal player. Only Waid could cleverly think of new ways to write a once dumb bad guy with an even dumber name, into a cool as ice menacing threat. With returning villains like Klaw & the Mole Man hitting these pages, I’m wondering how far will this villain thrive? The gap between Matt & Foggy keeps getting wider, as their once thriving friendship & partnership starts to fade away.

Regular artist Chris Samnee does some damn fine work with wonderful moments of Daredevil freefalling from a building and a shocking final page that at first glance seems impossible, but if you know anything about this villain, you know it can be done.

The Cons

Coyote seems like an odd name change for this villain, but then more information will be revealed in the next issue.

The Outcome

With every passing issue, this title keeps getting better & better.
