This is a nice return to form; almost.

Revisiting the night Danny and whats-her-face (female reporter lady?) spent together in the first issue, we get to actually see what transpired that night, and let me just say there wasn’t a whole lotta sleepin’, if you know what I mean… seriously, it was actually a pretty deep and emotionally driven dialogue regarding Danny’s upbringing and his parents. Perverts.

Andrews continues his voyage into expanding and rewriting much of Danny’s past, as we continue to explore the apparently severe amounts of trauma that Danny underwent by seeing his mother torn apart by wolves before his very eyes. Okay, even I’ll admit that was a little insensitive on my part. Although, if you take into consideration the mildly (hella) suggestive sex scene preluding his flashbacks, Sigmund Freud would be rolling in his grave (don’t worry, I Wiki’d to double check that reference).

Between the pity I’m left feeling for one of my favorite heroes, Danny’s nice little romp with his gal-pal, and the apparent psychosis that is miraculously resurfacing in Danny’s mind, I’m left a bit confused and a bit more disappointed. What’s more, the issue’s (and potentially series’) climax is spoiled by Andrews’ failure to take a risk and put his latest development on display; I’m somewhat conflicted on the dedication of entire pages/spreads to a single panel worth of narrative/imagery, but this instance was perfect for it. Wasted opportunity, is all I could say.

All things considered, not a bad issue, not a great issue.  Facing forward, I have to admit I’m a little excited to see how things can/will develop following this latest turn of events.
