With issue two of this incredible and, unique comic, Sebela and Moustafa continue to weave a violent mystery of staggering highs and, lows. That’s all without mentioning the rat that eats through a guy’s stomach.

Sebela knows how to write people. Scared, drunk, violent, skilled whatever have you, this writer can write it and, make you feel it. Here, the ante is upped and still, it all seems so natural and fluid. I especially appreciate that, upon the discovery of a massive 9-11 conspiracy, Zan simply says “holy cats” instead of some bullshit, perfectly poetic action movie line because, at the end of this all, she’s still just a person. More haunted by her snowboard than a severed hand.

Moustafa, too. Brings a world to life in a very specific, skilled way. From top to bottom, these images are his. He does all of it. Cover to closing or, “tip to taint” as they call it in pig slaughtering which seems a fitting metaphor given the violent nature of this book. And? He does it all well. There’s a specific scene of secret agent type torture that was honestly harder for me to look at than watching Hostel was. That’s a feat few other artists can pull off.

Right near the end of this issue, the narration veers a little too close to poetic for my tastes but then, it’s perfectly grounded again. These two creators are totally, perfectly in control of this story and, they’re both really good at what they’re doing.
