Doomsday Clock #9

Writer: Geoff Johns
Artist: Gary Frank
Colorist: Brad Anderson
Publisher: DC Comics

It has been 3 months since Doomsday Clock #8 came out and after being pushed back many times issue 9 is finally out. So far, I have been really enjoying the series, but like most people I feel that the delays have hurt the story heavily as I have to re-read what is going on between issues. The first few issues were slow but enjoyable, however in the last few issues the series has really been ramping up.

The rest of the DC Universe finally encounters Dr Manhatten and a huge fight takes place. Johns utilizes characters that we haven’t seen in a while and it is really fun to see. Throughout the scenes Johns gets the dispassionate and cold voice of Dr Manhatten right, as if it was Alan Moore that wrote those scenes.

The Superman theory is built upon as there is a possible suggestion from Dr Manhatten that it is all true. We see Ronny in the mind of Stein, as Stein has seemed to hand-picked Ronny to become Firestorm.

I have to say that this is probably one of the best issues so far. It gives the readers what they wanted in terms of there being a fight between Dr Manhatten and the DC Universe, but it also propels the many Superman Theory story forward as well. Gary Frank’s art is phenomenal in this issue and I do think that it makes it well worth the wait.
