The Umbrella Academy Season Two Trailer Breakdown

by Nick Devonald on July 26, 2020

Before we dive into the trailer take a minute to watch it if you haven't already:

Then read Netflix's official synopsis for the season:

Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right - the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which - spoiler alert! - turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.

The first thing which is obvious from the trailer is that the Apocalypse has followed the siblings back to Dallas in the 1960s. They don’t arrive together, with five being the last to the party. A grave Hazel tells Five that they’ve just witnessed the end of the world, November 25th, 1963. History buffs will note this is just three days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, also in Dallas. And as fans of the comic will tell you the second volume, Dallas, is all about that very assassination.

Klaus has a cult. Because of course he does. He still has Ben with him and their relationship promises to be as fun as the first season.

Keen eyed viewers will notice the ring on Allisons finger, from her presumed marriage to newcomer Yusuf Gatewood as Raymond.

Luther is fighting in some kind of underground fight ring, because what other skillset does a super strong half ape man have?

Diego is in a mental home, although a swift escape with Lila, played by Ritu Arya, looks to be on the cards. As the brief interactions between them show they have a fantastic chemistry together.

The siblings are now being pursued by three Swedes instead of Hazel and Cha-Cha.

And one of the highlights of the first season was the excellent score and music choice throughout the film, which look to be back here. For anyone wondering what song is playing in the background of the trailer it's Gerard Way - Here Comes The End.

And for those of you who don't know, Gerard Way, front man of My Chemical Romance, is also the writer of the Dark Horse comics the TV series is based on.
