Inhuman #3

by Tori B. on August 14, 2014

There’s a war coming for the Inhumans. The only question is whether it’s a war that puts Inhuman against one another or if it’s a war that will unite the Inhumans against an even greater threat.

What made Inhuman so great last issue might prove to be the series downfall if it doesn’t pick up a little more in upcoming issues.

It’s been nearly two and a half months since the last issue of Inhuman. Inhumans alone aren’t the most recognized part of the Marvel universe and there’s enough new characters being introduced in the series that coming back into it after two months is a little difficult to try and get back into the story because it’s so bookish—dialogue heavy with enough storytelling that after two months it’s hard to reimmerse and be swept into. It is an interesting story that’s rather plot heavy, unfortunately it’s just not quite entirely memorable at this point. The essential points of it are easy to remember—the Terrigan Mists were released to reveal new Inhumans all over the world, while Medusa starts a New Attilan off the coast of NYC as she continues to search for her missing husband among fighting a war against some of her own kind in a rally for peace.

The most memorable thing about Inhuman is in fact the art, though. Madureira does amazing things with the characters, and creates some incredibly gorgeous panels with a lot of action in them. Plus with Gracia on colours, it’s an automatic level on gorgeous. Each page is a pleasure to look at.

It looks like the next issue is due for release within two weeks, which should be better, because the plot is actually interesting, and so are the new characters. The Inhumans become of a threat that could quite possibly be bigger than the war they’re currently waging so alliances must be formed, but due to the current animosity it’s curious to see whether it’s going to work out in their favour or not.

It’s definitely shaping out to be a series better suited for fans that are already familiar with the Inhumans and what’s been happening in their part of the Marvel universe as of lately. Fans of Medusa especially will get to see her in her strongest element as a regal force not to be challenged.

Here’s hoping in a couple weeks the next issue has a little more going for it plot wise that makes it stand out as a unique story, and the characters become just a little more relatable.

I find that I’m still fond of the series despite and apprehension that I seem to have but that’s mostly due to the fact that I’m already an Inhuman fan, and unfortunately a strong series needs more than that to keep it going. We’ll see how it goes—though I’d be in it for the art alone, so it certainly has that going for it.
