Miles Morales: The Utimate Spider-Man #2

Miles Morales is certainly living an interesting life. Just how many Peter Parkers can he run into?

Miles has not had an easy year. Along with not only carrying the mantle of being Spider-Man, he’s also struggled with the loss of his parents, his country losing total control, and Galactus to name a few. Luckily he’s had strong guidance from Gwen, Aunt May, MJ, and even Captain America himself.  Actually he even somehow managed to snag some time with Peter Parker from another universe (616). But what do you actually do when your own Peter Parker from your own universe shows up in your home?

Miles tackles it in a typical confused teenager manner; there are dumbfounded expressions and inappropriate language as Miles takes in exactly what’s in front of him. The dialogue and story is simple in this issue, yet at the same time so much is being told. The first few pages have no text at all and yet the reader knows exactly what is happening, which is a major prop to both Bendis and Marquez in their collaboration to story tell in such a manner.

The simplicity of it all makes each action stand out a little more, letting readers pick up on the motivations of Miles and Peter and slowly taking up to a similar conclusion by the end. Though one doesn’t have to be a serious sleuth to read the story, Miles after all is the voice of the series and his voice is that of a young adolescent male who definitely has a need to share exactly what’s on his mind. Miles’ voice is endearing and charming and even though his dialogue shared with Ganke get repetitive quickly, it’s easy to forgive because we see exactly the type of kid Miles is.

Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man is shaping up to be little bit more of a light-hearted series, given the type of boy that Miles is and whom he decides to spend his time with. There’s a lot of light humour interjected throughout the entire issue so even when certain points of action do seem to get pretty serious, a small checkle is not too far away.

While it’s nice to see Peter back again, it’s quite obvious that Miles is now Spider-Man and there is no longer any contest as to which Spider-Man the Ultimate Universe needs.  And if what Miles has figured out at the end of the issue has any truth to it, his life running into Peter Parker(s) is only going to get more interesting.
