B.P.R.D. volume 8: Killing Ground

by stephengervais on April 09, 2012

The writing duties for volume 8 are once again shared by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi with Guy Davis providing the drawings. Volume 8 is aptly called the Killing Ground and boy is there ever a lot of killing throughout this trade.

Volume 8 steps away from the ongoing frog battle and concentrates on building up the character’s personalities with plenty of gore thrown in. All the agents share the spotlight this series but I’d have to say Johann steals the show this time around. He’s inherited a new body and is suddenly more interested in personal pleasures over his responsibilities as a B.P.R.D. agent.  That being said the biggest surprise of this trade definitely belongs to Captain Daimio. As not to ruin anything I’ll just say his past comes back to haunt his fellow agents.

The main focus of the story is a monster on the loose in the B.P.R.D. headquarters. This adventure is an action filled one with plenty of twists thrown in to keep you guessing what will happen next. This is definitely one of the more violent stories so far in B.P.R.D. with Davis’ illustrations capturing all the graphic details.

The story has a very cinematic feel to it with the images leaving little to the imagination. This is definitely one not to be read before bed.
