STORY BY SCOTT SNYDER, JAMES TYNION IV, JOHN LAYMAN
ART BY GUILLEM MARCH
COLORS BY DAVE MCCRAIG
LETTERS BY STEVE WANDS

The story really shines.  It’s what I’m noticing with this weekly released book.  The writers can take their time and really stretch things out.  Two and a half month in and I’m starting to notice how awesome this pace is.  It allows for some very engaging dialogue and interactions between our beloved capes.

So you open the book and bam, the colors floor you.  In typical McCraig fashion, expect the background colors to really exceed your standards.  Sadly, not everything was perfect in the color department.  Characters faces and colors were ruined by blotchy shadows, and that was impossible to overlook.  And that’s a shame.  Because the line work seemed so rushed, I can’t believe this met an editor’s standards.  The colors sort of made me kinda overlook the line work.  If not for Bruce Wayne calling out to Jason by name I wouldn’t have known that he was the Red Hood.  Some of the characters just didn’t look right; Bruce Wayne had this eye thing that was just weird.  His jaw was slightly off too.  The list goes on.

So back in Gotham, Falcone has Cat woman in his clutches but instead of dispatching her he begins monologuing in typical villain fashion.  The Roman has made enemies, lots of em too.  Bruce sends Jason to South America to keep an eye on Batgirl.  Ms Pennyworth is still recuperating and Pyg gets Facone nicely packaged.  The pace was perfect here and I can’t wait to see what Batgirl and Jason get in to.

The book wasn’t bad.  It just wasn’t as good as it should have been.  I’m kinda thinking DC bit off a lot more than they should have here, that’s what they’re making me believe at least.  The art has been all over the place, it’s just not doing the story any justice.  It’s a lost opportunity.  Hence the low score, it's because of the art.  In the comic medium, visiualizations carry the story that was written.  Panel to panel.  And I'm so worried about this series, the art's getting worse.  Hopefully #11 fixes things.
