STORY BY Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis

ART BY Howard Porter

COLORS BY Hi-Fi

LETTERS BY Taylor Esposito

Plots are starting to develop.  Cadmus’ goals are now taking shape, somewhat at least.  The 5’s leader is revealed and the Flash dies.  Again.

When something familiar is made unfamiliar one of two things can happen.  It’s either going to be terrible, or it’s going to be awesome.  JL3k rips our heroes out of the modern age we know and puts them in the future.  In an unknown setting, with little resources and no Watchtower support.  And this is working out very well, hell I’m ready to call this one of the best JLA books out there.  But that might be because of all the shock and surprises.

The fact that Green Lantern is tiny adds a bit of unspoken humor, while Flash dying again brings in a darker humor.  Poor guy.  I think a lost opportunity exists though, it would be nice to know who the folks were before taking in the JL's DNA.  It's cool though, the story isn't over yet.

Issue 6 ended with me believing there was going to be a huge battle scene in issue 7.  But there wasn’t, I kind of felt let down by that.  Also, the dialogue is getting repetitive.  Especially on the twins’ end.  At least one killed the other, should make for better dialogue, maybe.  And while I’m on the topic of dialogue; this book really forces you to use your imagination from panel to panel.  It’s very dialogue heavy.  As if it wants to tell a story but not show a story.  I can see how this could interfere with how folks want their books to interact with them.  It could alienate a few.

Either way, it’s worth a read.  And the art, especially the backgrounds, is amazing!
