Private Eye #6

Issue six is generally the start of a new arc for most comics. Not so for the team behind Private Eye, who have stacked their line up with nothing but designated hitters. This is another great entry into a series that is quickly becoming the spit roast of my current reading list. A slow burn, but gloriously tasty.

Lady Big Mac, our greasy faced heroine features heavily in this issue, comforting the readers letting us know she’s still alive and kicking. She appears to be in more danger now than driving down the city streets and twice the speed limit. Patrick and Raveena are no help as they are still chasing down the leads from last issue and now have themselves a name and a motive. They also bite off more than they can chew when Raveena goes all Beatrix Kiddo, seeking revenge for her sister’s murder.

While in previous issues it seems like little happens but in actuality a lot of story takes place. This issue is the opposite, it feels like the story only progressed a little bit, but at the same time felt like a lot happened. I'm not sure how I'm meant to feel about that, so I'll awkwardly stop this paragraph and talk about something else.

Now if you’ve been reading these reviews until now, you’re a better woman/man than me. Though you’ll notice that I have yet to make up mind about where I stand with the art. That theme continues this time round with some of the panels blowing my metaphorical socks off. There is a scary amount of detail put into the scenery. For those who have been enjoying the art so far, you’re in for a treat in this issue.

This issue left me with the feeling of wanting to read another one, which I guess is a sign of the quality, or that I’ve finally been indoctrinated into the cult of BKV. Either way it’s an 8 from me, and stern suggestion that if you aren’t reading this comic yet, you’re doing yourself a great disservice.
