Supergirl Season 2 Episode 5 Review
**Spoilers**

A quiet episode of Supergirl this week as the story revovled around new character dynamics and possible relationships. But even with lackluster villains, Supergirl proved that it still could provide some entertainment without some big new character being introduced. Since there isn't much to talk about for this episode, this review will be shorter than most. Sorry in advance.

Three character dynamics were explored this episode. First, Kara and Mon-El were explored a bit more as their relationship deepened as Kara had to learn how to teach Mon-El without overbearing her responsibilities on him. It was a nice arc to Kara who didn't do any reporting this week. Also the seeds of a relationship were clear as day with them dancing together. I said it last week and it is still prevalent. While there is serious chemistry in between Melissa and Chris, I believe that they should take their time with the relationship and make it somthing earned.

The second character dynamic was with Maggie and Alex as their budding relationship brings up serious questions. Let me say, Chyler Leigh acted incredibly for the last scene. Alex's struggle with coming to terms with what she is feeling is something common and the fact that she isn't to jump completley into this new experience and left it like that shows that Supergirl is willing to treat this with maturity. Also Maggie picking up on how Alex kept on wanting to be with her was smart of the producers to do.

The last character dynamic explored was Lena and Kara/Supergirl. One thing I realised is that Lena is Lex from Smallville. For those unfamiliar, Lex as initially a good character with a bad father who wanted to abuse meta humans. Lex unfortunatelly lost his one good friend in Clark and went down the wrong path. I can't help like seeing the same future for Lena who is a good character right now but one who can easily turn dark. With her mother being revealed as Cadmus's main scientist, it seems more than likely. I can not wait for what they do with this relationship. Besides that, Lena shared more scenes with Kara making an ally out of her and Supergirl. Her scene with Winn teased a romance but it is still unclear what direction they are going in.

Along with these three character dynamics. James had his big character moment this season after being absent for the last couple of episodes. If you have read the spoilers for upcoming episodes, you would know that Jimmy is going to become the Guardian. I was unsure before this episode and am still pretty unsure. James as a character seems pretty useless in the direction the show is heading. Turning him into a hero makes some sense if you would like to keep the character but it creates logical inconsistencies such as the fact that James is a black belt. This was never mentioned and it seems like they are trying to hard to make him relevant. Hopefully my opinion changes with his official debut.

The direction was also solid with Glen Winter returning to provide some solid action. CGI was also pretty good with an emphasis on close shots.
