Holy hell. I mean Jesus Christ, I knew that this comic was the king of really throwing you for a loop but that had have been the biggest loop in a LONG time. I'd like to go into what occurred without spoiling it for the people who are most definitely going to want to pick this one up. It's a milestone. Easily one of the peaks (or the beginning of one). Alright, I'll just say that they killed off 2 characters that are very pivotal to the sanity of a couple of the other characters and all hell is literally going to break loose after this issue. I personally can't wait.

Kirkman showed his reading audience that they should start paying attention to every panel instead of just the main ones. The clues were there but I sure as heck didn't see it until both Kirkman and Rick Grimes spelled it out for me like killers revealing a motive. It was perfect and even in the Letter Hacks in the back of the issue, he quotes the art staffs surprise as they read the script for the issue. That's how you know it's good, when even the people who've been working on the comic since day one are taken aback by the reveal. Absolutely awesome.

The art team does what the art team has always done, which is push black & white art into the stratosphere. I was actually thinking about the tones and textures of this comic recently when I caught a couple panels of Maus in one of my English textbooks for school. You can see the subtle differences between the art styles but you can also see where the textures and tone are shaped up in TWD as opposed to usual black & white art of western comics. Eastern comics have it down pat with their Mangas, but these guys are trying their hardest to give them a run for their money...and I'm loving the results.

Amazing issue. Easy 10/10 for the last panels alone. Still in shock.
