Project Superpowers: Blackcross #4

This issue bummed me out and I'm gonna tell you why: IT FLEW BY IN AN INSTANT!! Now either it was my immaculate reading skills or the fact that their wasn't enough dialogue, but it felt like it only took me les than a few minutes to get through this. Not that it was bad or anything, quite the opposite, we made some headway in introducing the team of superpowered heroes to one another. This issue starts with the disposal of a body and ends with the making of a new one, and all happens super fast. But I liked it a lot, so it continues to amaze.

Ellis writes very well as always and this issue is no exception. We're still working with the same cast of characters, but we're ever so slowly being introduced to new characters THROUGH the bodies of the old ones, which is a neat trick and makes for some good speculation. Who could have superpowers next?! Nobody knows, but it's fun to guess. I also like the looming American Flag figure even though I feel sometimes like it's a metaphor for something since he's always draped in a flag when he's killing innocent people. Again, who knows? But I enjoy the spectacle.

Speaking of spectacle, Worley should get an award for some of this art, I'm loving it. It fits the mood of the piece and the atmosphere as well. The atmosphere of course being a mixture of Twin Peaks, a horror movie, and a Tarantino flick. It all works flawlessly and the art isn't too overbearing. The fluidity of it's use even when there are no words on the page speaks volumes for the talent involved and also explains why I zoomed through this issue if I was able to understand what the art was conveying in the grander picture. Extremely awesome stuff.

Another great issue! Love it! Grab it!
