Swords Of Sorrow #2

This is a damn good show of how to put a bounty of different main female protagonists in a comic book and make it work. This issue was more of what we saw last issue with all of our heroines being given their blackened swords of sorrow to fight off what could ultimately end up destroying the entire universe. Firstly though, they have to figure out a way to work together, which at first for Red Sonja and Dejah Thoris (John Carter) seems almost impossible. The brunt of the comic revolves around how Sonja and Dejah work out their differences with little segways into Vampirella's run-in with a T-Rex and the other women showing up at the end to take on an inter-dimensional foe in their respective demensions.
Simone is doing an amazing job intertwining all these worlds together and not slowing down the action to explain WHY the events are taking place. Most of the exposition is delivered during huge battle scenes and that helped with the pacing immensely because nothing ever stopped moving. Usually some of the character backstory is caught in a whirlwind of dullness but this just felt like a smooth transition from one situation to the next. The dialouge was a tad fickle at times, but it didn't take away from the core of the narrative so I enjoyed it. Great job.
Davila continues his assault with the pencil here. Lovely environments and setpieces throughout. His T-Rex also made as giddy as a schoolboy because of the authenticity of its overall look. The costuming of all the characters is also amazingly done and for him to have such control over his art to switch from one style to the other really speaks volumes about his skill. I loved the atmosphere of each panel and I can't wait to see what's in store. Amazing stuff.
Dynamite continues to impress. Pick this one up!
