Welp, I thought I couldn't be blown away by a Dynamite Comics release, but I was wrong. This comic is ripe for the picking in terms of subsequent issues. The small details in Rory Fletcher's backstory and his eventual stumble into superpowers set up a lot of groundwork for future stories. The superpowers themselves are a bit hard to follow at first, but once you see their aftermath, you get the jist of it. His friend Raz, who sets the whole story in motion, is both caring and selfish in just a few pages. The other characters are set up in quick succession and are very well-fleshed out in some regards. The main female in the story, Emma, is portrayed in expert fashion. I even nodded my head in approval at one point in her introduction because of how well she had been written.

Speaking of the writing, Peter Milligan's writing is superb. BIG SURPRISE. I mean the guy wrote some of the best X-Men and Batman comics in the 90s. It's obvious when he's giving free range on a piece like this, he hits it out of the park. One aspect of his writing that I really love is the constant mystery of whether or not the implied meaning behind a character's actions are right or wrong. You don't know whose side to take and whether or not the main character is even a hero. Kinda like Breaking Bad, but with superpowers.

The art by Piotr Kowalski is amazing. I usually don't put much stock into Dynamite's talent when it comes to art because of previous comics of there's that I've read, but Piotr absolutely killed it. Again, this guy has drawn some great comics in the past for Marvel and BOOM, so it's no surprise that this would be stallar.

All in all, a great start to a hopefully long run.
