Bombshells United #7

by Olivier Roth on December 08, 2017

Writer: Marguerite Bennett

Artist: Richard Ortiz

Colorist: J. Nanjan

Published by: DC Comics

After a first arc that concentrated on Wonder Woman and the Wonder Girls, this new issue of Bombshells United changes the focus to Batwoman as she tries to help the Spanish resistance against the new powers that be in Spain installed by Nazi Germany. His name? Black Adam!

The story starts off with some good framework by Bennett to establish that Batwoman has not been seen in or around Gotham, let alone war-ravaged Europe for some time. This is told to the reader through a radio broadcast that also doubles as a quick recap of who this Batwoman is - a welcome addition for any new readers to this universe.

As the reader, we learn that Batwoman has been holed up in Spain as she tries to gain entry into the Spanish resistance - and is doing so through her former flame Renee Montoya. Since I’m going to assume Renee has not yet been introduced in the Bombshells universe, Bennett again smartly chooses to give the reader some background on who she is, her connection to Batwoman, and a reason for why she fights. This all leads to Batwoman joining them (was there ever any doubt), and getting to face off against the new power in Spain that is Black Adam.

Combined with the art by Ortiz, Bennett’s script for this issue accomplishes exactly what it set out to do: re-introduce a character we haven’t seen for a while in this universe, introduce new ones, and finally, give purpose to the events that unfold. A great start.
