Night Force #1

by lucstclair on March 08, 2012

A girl with horrific visions & a soon to be retired cop. They don’t know it yet, but they are connected somehow and one man knows why. Baron Winters is an expert occultist & a connoisseur of the dark arts and he has plans for these two unsuspecting citizens. Welcome to the Night Force!

This is a remake or a reimagining if you will, of an old series from DC Comics. I don’t know much about it, but I was intrigued by this issue and it’s cover. Winters seems to be like Doctor Strange, only darker and without the flair. Instead of Wong, he has a pet cheetah (or is it a jaguar?) named Merlin who he seems to communicate with telepathically.

Marv Wolfman is no stranger to DC, he’s written everything from Batman to Teen Titans, to Deathstroke to the original Night Force series. Fans of Tom Mandrake will remember him from the pages of The Spectre. Mandrake has a unique horror style with twisted nightmarish panels, terrifying shadows & beady little eyes on the more darker characters. I haven’t decided if I’ll continue with this title, but it helps that it’s a mini-series.
