Legends Of The World’s Finest (TPB)

by lucstclair on March 03, 2012

A story of nightmares, condemned souls & redemption as The Man Of Steel & The Dark Knight team-up once again to stop an ancient demon straight from hell! Featuring Batman, Superman, Man-Bat, Blaze & The Silver Banshee.

This super hero story is also a horror story filled with Scottish folklore, nightmarish demons & incantations. Not the most original story I’ve read, with deals with devils & demons and hell on earth situation we’re all too familiar with. What it lacks in plot, certainly makes up for it with art. Dan Brereton’s beautiful life-like painted illustrations are astonishing. Like Alex Ross, his drawings come to life with every stroke of the brush. His facial expressions speak a thousand words and his rendition of The Joker is chilling. I’ve been an admirer of his work since The Nocturnals and even the CD jacket art he did for Rob Zombie.

For my rating, I’m torn between a 2 stars & a 3 stars, but I’ll settle for a 3 stars. It’s no food for thought, but it sure is a feast for the eyes. Written by Walter Simonson (Thor Visionaries) & illustrated by Dan Brereton (Psycho). Originally published as Legends Of The World’s Finest #1-#3. From DC Comics.
