Locke & Key Vol. 2 : Head Games (HC)

by lucstclair on July 30, 2012

After the incident with Sam the psycho, the Locke family tries to put it behind them and move on. But for Zack Wells, a.k.a. Lucas Caravaggio, he’s just beginning and he has unfinished business with the Locke family. All is going according to plan that is until a veteran professor from school recognises him from the old days. With the use of the amazing Anywhere Key, tying up loose ends is what Zack does best. But as the Locke children will soon realize, is that the most amazing key of all… is the Head Key!

The Pros

Even better than the last book, this series keeps delivering the goods with a despicable villain, clever plot twists, emotionally damaged characters & new keys (I never get tired of those). The newest key found is the Head Key and it’s by far the coolest one. Nothing will prepare you for what the Head Key can do, I’m still trying to pry my jaw from the floor. Writer Joe Hill is digging deeper & deeper into the history & psych of some of these characters and it’s not pretty. All their fears, fantasies & secrets are out in the open and it’s disturbing & beautiful at the same time.

Illustrator Gabriel Rodriguez’s style continues to impress me with wonderful full page layouts of what the Head Key can accomplish. Great stuff.

The Cons

You’re not going to find any of those here.

The Outcome

A family drama with a horror twist. This is one of the best series the comic book industry has to offer. Check out my reviews for Locke & Key Vol. 1 & 3. Originally published as Locke & Key : Head Games #1-#6 from IDW.
