Debris #1

by lucstclair on July 24, 2012

This is the story of a handful of warriors that must defend their village of Maiden from the threat of mechanical animals bent on total annihilation. None are better than Maya, a tough blue eyed red-headed spit fire with the skills to destroy the largest of mech-animals. As the threat of the creatures drawing closer to the village everyday, tough decisions are made that will change the life in the village forever.

The Pros

A straight forward tale about humans vs robots with a touch of The Matrix with The Terminator thrown in the mix. Written by Kurtis Wiebe (Grim Leaper) & illustrated by Riley Rossmo. Wiebe has written a slightly entertaining sci-fi story with colourful monsters and pulse pounding action. Rossmo’s beautiful illustrations looks like it was plucked right out of a Heavy Metal magazine, with detailed animal robots and incredible fight scenes.

The Cons

There’s no doubt about it, this is one good looking comic, unfortunately it borrows heavily on other sci-fi material and left me with a dull feeling, like I’ve seen all this stuff before and I probably have.

The Outcome

It’s a shame because I’m a fan of Kurtis Wiebe, it just feels like not a lot effort was put into this. From Image Comics.
