Oh thank the heavens, Luther Strode is BACK BABY! Although for the “Jordan faithful” he’s been back since Spread #6… but that was just a taste, and this is the real deal. So the question remaining on everyone’s mine I’m sure is: what in the hell have Luther and Petra been up to since the last chapter?

After the showdown with Jack (as in “the Ripper”?) Petra and Luther are in police custody and, just as you’d expect, shortly out thereafter. I think it goes without saying they weren’t released for “good behavior.” Following up on them a few months down the road, and we find our deadly duo shacked up in the wilderness, away from society and training for the next threat: namely, others who have learned the ways of “the Method.” I can’t express how excited I am that this series is back in action, seeing as it’s the project that Moore left All-New Ghost Rider for, and rightfully so – as great as ANGR is/was, this is the book Jordan and Moore may go down in history for. We’re talking (literally) Biblical levels of gore and ultraviolence, and all because Jordan can’t stray away from a grisly hyper-violent story, and Moore is all too willing to oblige. Not that I’m complaining.

I think I’ve said it before, but Moore’s style is very much reminiscent of a “westernized manga” – not necessarily in terms of being a 1:1 comparison, but dynamism of the actions and expressions he conveys still remain within the realms of most western comics, while the proportions and insanity of his figures and their respective actions/interactions create a style that feels wholly unique, and remains one of the most distinguished styles currently in the industry. I know it’s hit or miss for some, but I’m a HUGE fan of how he handles gestures, expressions, and (of course) fight sequences.

The fact of the matter is that I see very little that can go wrong with this series – yeah, it’s the last chapter of what has thus far been an incredibly fun and imaginative story, but the sage has been set and it’s pretty darn clear that there’s only one way things can end: Luther facing the Bound. Now what the dénouement of that little encounter will entail I’m unsure, but it still remains that Jordan have setup a playground of sorts to go wild with and ended up mixing an interesting story in there somewhere along the way. I’m not trying to sell you on this comic as if you’re going to read it for some deeper meaning or introspection, but if you’re looking for a beautifully and uniquely drawn book with dynamic characters and dialogue – The Legacy of Luther Strode is for you.
