Writer/Artist: Kaare Andrews
Publisher: Marvel

Last issue, Andrews not only expanded upon the psychological elements playing into our broken hero’s current lease on life and demeanor, he went ahead and literally broke the man that is Danny Rand.

Now, emotionally, and physically broken, Danny’s left attempting to hold his own in the blistering cold by a zombie robot that may or may not be his father; all the while, Rand Tower starts to get reconstructed? While that development may have come out of nowhere, it still drives into the theme that Rand is being attacked on all fronts some way, somehow, by someone with some serious vendettas. Also, we see the return of a rather prolific figure in “Iron Fist Lore”! But it’s still too early to tell what this entails for the fate of Danny and K’un L’un…

Honestly, I’m still torn on this series. On the one hand, the dynamics of the art help deliver a brutal/gruesome narrative and story that’s appealing to the eye as well as palate of those who fancy darker stories; but on the other hand this is a character who I’m very much used to being fun-loving and a bit more light hearted, despite the scale of his duties. Flickers of the former Rand do come to surface every now and then, but ultimately my heart aches for a less hate/anger driven Danny.
