What do you think of fate? What if you and another person destiny were intertwined with one another how and you didn’t even know it? Would you welcome that person into your life or would you ponder and question what this other person has to do with your life.

Silver Surfer #2 is possibly one the most thought provoking comics to be published by the big two in some time. The story involves the Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood who as a child made a wish that entwined her and the surfers future not knowing that her wish would lead her to out space she becomes trapped as a prisoner of the plant called Impericon because the surfer makes a deal with one the alien in charge of the plant that they will hold a loved for collateral in case he backs out of fighting the Queen of the Nevers.

What I loved

This series has been hysterical so far which is something that has never been done before in a Silver Surfer Comic which is usually about political and moral views which tends to make the books rather dark. But Dan Slott does a great job of make these new character interesting and making a story that is just about the opposite if what you would expect from a “Superhero” comic making it like a outer space comedy with metaphysical under tones such as destines being entwined with another being and having all parts of reality being seen as well as all the choice you could make in each path you go. Aside from the crazy parts of the book, two main characters are what I enjoyed most and could relate to. The Silver Surfer a man that has a lot to redeem himself for with an incredible sense of honor  also Dawn greenwood who is a all American vegan girl who is smart and isn’t a damsel in distress but she is realizing for the first time in her life there is more two the world than just her home town. All in all these characters are just relatable, which is something that I thought I would never say about an alien with a surfer board. The art in this book is simply amazing it has an old comic book style but never boring to look at, the panels are structured in an amazing way making Mike Allred one of my favorite artist because he can capture any kind of emotion in his art whether it be happy, sad,  shocked, or even wonderment. There couldn’t be a better choice for this book.

What I hated

This book is very new reader friendly but if you don’t pay attention and take some time two understand what is happening to the silver Surfer you could get lost easily. Bit that is my only gripe with this book is that its complex but it doesn’t take time explaining itself it just moves on.

Overall

The new Silver Surfer is a humorous take on a old character with new characters mixed in Dawn Greenwood is becoming my new favorite character in comics because she is a smart and relatable. The art is Mike Allred at his best making all the aliens and the humans looks distinctly different also making outer space a place I would want to explore on a surfer board. The strange ideas and the relationship of the Surfer and Dawn is what is going to make me keep coming back each month
