Oh yeah! Ninjak! This is by far the best book I read this week.  I missed the last issue, but it appears that Matt Kindt brought all the pieces of the Ninjak puzzle together with the return of Roku and the other five members of the Shadow Seven, and the reveal that Colin King, Ninjak is in fact the seventh member. While this is set up as a shocking twist, I basically figured it out right away, so kudos to me I guess. So now the merry(?) band of terrorists are off to meet with their mysterious benefactor. Obviously the main villain of this story arc is going to be Master Darque, as the story is called the Seven Blades of Master Darque. We get some good stuff with Ninjak learning some of his forgotten memories from their benefactor. There is an awesome page with a more comic strip art style when this is explained, awesome stuff there.

Speaking of the art, it was really great. The action fight scenes were well done, with some brutal stuff happening to poor Ninjak. The Ninja Tracks, the comic strip style stuff was probably my favourite, it was a really unique way to recap the previous important plot points as well as highlighting the stuff that you might have missed along the way, the clues to Ninjak having become a member of the Shadow Seven are brought out wonderfully. The art flows nicely from one page to the next, and the character design is great. I also love the covers, I feel like I should mention that, Valiant does a great job with variant covers and this issue has a couple really nice ones.

Like his Rai/2001 A.D series Matt Kindt has led us down many different paths that ultimately all further along the story we are getting right now. From the appearances of the Shadow Seven to his battles with Roku, his time spent in the after life dimension Dead side to his learning about his parents being double agents, has all lead to this confrontation with Master Darque. It has made this one of my favourite books, and is going to be a great re-read later on. There are funny moments as well making the mood not 100 percent dark, which is nice. The Batman vibe of Ninjak is undeniable he is the Valiant version of that icon, but the differences make him a unique fun character to read.

Kindt has taken a frankly one dimensional typical 90's character in Ninjak and has crafted an Akira Kurosawa style story, that has really exceeded all expectations and has left this reader happy and excited for the next issue. By far my favourite book of this week.
