Bloodshot Reborn #14

Written by: Jeff Lemaire

Art by: Mico Suayan

Published by Valiant Comics

A month is too long to wait for this book. Ever since Valiant put out the title of this arc, Bloodshot Island, I was sold and excited. So what is Bloodshot Island? It's an island full of Bloodshots. This issue is the first of the Bloodshot Island arc. So in the last issue our hero Ray Garrison, Bloodshot, was recaptured by Project Rising Spirit the evil creators of the Bloodshot project. Ray Garrison wakes up on the island, finds Bloodhound and an another earlier version of Bloodshot who we were introduced to in a previous story. The three meet up with the rest of the "Bloodshot Squad" a team of Bloodshots from various military campaigns in history. We meet the villain of the arc, Deathmate a name which should resonate with old school Valiant fans.
The art is outstanding. The entire run of this book the art has been stunning and this issue has so much great stuff in it. A staple of Bloodshot books is the imaginative ways people are killed, and this book adds some great moments. I love the new characters and they are put to good use here, good thing Bloodshots can heal.

Jeff Lemaire has been hooked on this book. The two issues of his corner of the Valiant universe we've had this month have been the highlight of my comic reading. It was an exciting read,  the action was well paced and there was enough to draw you back for the next issue. It's almost playing back to the pulp novel format. Throwing your hero into the action without a traditional opening, just explosive action right off the bat. Don't think that this is simply an action movie brought to comics, there is a larger story at play here. The return of Project Rising Spirit was unexpected but makes sense. Why would they let an expensive weapon run around free? Under Lemaire's direction however Bloodshot, Ray Garrison, has become more then that. A deeply flawed character, but still a heroic one, sort of Valiant's Wolverine.
Every arc we've had so far in this book has been great. It's a deep story that is really one of the most engaging books on the market today, and if you aren't reading you should start as soon as possible because it is a great series, and a great issue that I can't recommend enough
