The Witcher: Fox Children tackles the massively popular Witcher series and proves that when source material is good, extra avenues and approaches almost always pay off.

There’s little exposition or introduction here and I hope we learn where this story falls into Geralt’s larger one but the writing, art and general feel of the book are so exclusively Witcher that the fainter plot elements can be forgiven.

Tobin understands not only Geralt but, his world too. He writes a tough, honest script that offers up all of the good things about The Witcher with very little of its bad. There's some action, some fable, some grit and some adult themes just like everything in this world before it. Nothing feels out of place aside from the cold, confusing opening.

Querio, too, understands more about The Witcher than most. His depiction of the world is dark, gritty and fantastical as it should be.

This is in no way a good introduction to The Witcher series but that’s not its intent. It’s a good, if somewhat hollow, book that expands Geralt’s story without taking away from his character or making leaps that the games wouldn’t. I have no large complaints here and I would be hard pressed to see why any other fan would either.
