Amidst the torrent of event comics that flood the market, The Valiant stands out because it doesn't try to stand out. Instead of going for a bloated 12 issue Maxi featuring various "world-shattering moments" that will "affect the very fabric of the universe...FOREVER!", The Valiant takes a much simpler approach. That approach is a four issue mini-series featuring some of the best characters Valiant has to offer in a compacted Summer blockbuster style comic. This is how events should be. Let them be fun, quick stories featuring our favorites. Have them be intense and nerve-wracking while still being a total blast to read. Make small changes that make the event worth reading overall, but quit making promises that this changes everything. The Valiant did the event format right.

Kindt and Lemire script the book with a ferverous pace that doesn't allow you to stop and question what's happening. They grab you by the sleeve and drag you along for the ride. Each character has a unique voice and role to play and they all play them so well. This is a story that runs like a well-oiled machine.

Paolo Rivera brings some solid work to the pages, and minus a few awkwardly posed Bloodshot scenes he does wonders.

The Valiant has succeeded in ways that few books have recently, it's actually fun.
