**SPOILERS TO PREVIOUS SWAMP THING STORIES (But if you're reading a review for the 38th issue of it's most current run, you'll either know this or don't care if it's a spoiler in the first place)**

As DC's current run of Swamp Thing comes to an end before it's untimely cancellation in March, we see the run come full circle in Soule's final issues. When the run started DC had rebooted Swamp Thing pretty hard. The beloved Alan Moore verions of Swamp Thing was revealed to be nothing but a sham. He was basically a tree that THOUGHT he was Alec Holland. This new Alec Holland was the real deal. (Dumb, I know, but it's comic logic, you'll just have to roll with it). Alec is given another lease on normal human life, but, ultimately, decides to become Swamp Thing as it is his destiny to be avatar of The Green. This leads to it all coming full circle when THE MACHINE QUEEN (Aka The Lady Weeds) teams up with Arcane and Miki, the avatar of The Grey. Arcane steals Alec's bones from the Swamp that turned him into the Avatar and then procedes to have a threesome with THE MACHINE QUEEN and Miki. (Honestly, I don't even know anymore.) Alec's bones become a bastardization of himself; this weird machine, rot, grey mix of a person who talks like an even dumber bizarro.

All of this insanity previously described is lovingly brought to life by Jesús Saíz. As the story progresses further and further into insanity he is a fantastic constant to keep the reader on the rails. HIs grim and ghoulish creation of the new Alec Holland is legitimately disturbing.

Minus a few pacing problems (one caused by a bizarrely placed ad right at the end of the comic), Swamp Thing is heading towards its send-off in grand fashion. Clearly, Charles Soule and Jesús Saíz are having a lot of fun making this story as crazy as possible.
