Swamp Thing #34

Art by: Jesus Saiz

Capucine, oh, Capucine, I've loved her character since she was introduced at the beginning of Charles Soule's run on Swamp Thing. Smart, worldly, badass. She's a fascinating character that has a lot of potential down the road. This issue is hers, surprisingly. In fact, it's kind of surprising how little Swamp Thing actually does in this issue. More and more it seems apparent that Alec isn't a very good Swamp Thing at all.

This issue wraps up The Wolf and The Lady arc that had been building since Alec destroyed the Parliament of Trees. It wraps up a little too neatly for my liking, and honestly, it's a little premature as well. I wasn't completely satisfied with the way this arc ended.

Minus my gripes with the ending, other parts of the issue were great, notably Jesus Saiz's artwork. His character design for the transformed Wolf is great. Undeniably creepy, which is something this book needs a little more of. Did I also mention Capucine? Oh, man, so cool.

Unfotunately, Jesus Saiz's artwork and Capucine don't entirely save this issue from it's blunders. Still, I'm hesitantly optimistic to see where this series goes next.
