If you're looking for a new indie book this could be it. The Last Anomaly by Mike Damboldt has the potential to be an epic series. It's still making it's fledgling steps to that, but for now if issue one is like the rest of the series, it's only going to get better.

The plot takes bits and pieces from stories you've seen before, it's a tale of redemption and destiny. However, it's a similar plot in a unique world. This helps to give the book it's own legs. What really sets the book apart is a strong visual style. While the art isn't the best I've ever seen it carries a lot of weight with it, and some pages will truly make your jaw drop.

My major qualms with this book are few, but I think they're important to address.

1. I have zero interest or care in the main character because I have zero idea of who he is. I've been given some of his backstory, sure, but I don't know his personality. His likes or dislikes, or what makes him who he is. I'm sure this will be rectified in later issues, but for now, to me, it's a glaring flaw.

2. The lettering is not particularly great, in some places it's not very good at all. It really threw me out of the book. This book would definitely benefit from a professional letterer.

Overall, though, The Last Anomaly is shaping up to be an interesting book with an solid setting and great art. I definitely recommend checking it out.
