The mission to find the Nihil Path Engine continues! Last issue, Doctor Aphra and her ex Sana Starros found out that the Path Engine being auctioned off on Midarr is a fake, but their discovery was cut short by the arrival of Vukorah, leader of the Unbroken Clan. This issue picks up right where it left off, with Sana having a bad injury. One thing I love about this series is how much it keeps the dynamics between characters believable. It would've been really easy to keep Sana stagnant, forever despising Aphra for her various betrayals, but Wong doesn't do that. Sana still cares about Aphra, and Aphra still cares about Sana. Over the course of this arc, they've gone from genuinely bickering to just teasing each other playfully as they spend time together.

Following the aftermath of the battle, the cast heads to Midarr, but the issue takes a couple detours as usual. We get to see more of what Lucky is up to, as well as what Domina Tagge is up to, who we haven't seen in a few issues now. I really like this style of storytelling. since the series is continually building up its new supporting cast while also giving attention to the old ones like Sana. As for what both characters are up to, Lucky is still on an adventure on Canto Bight, following Aphra's example of working with their exes and working with his ex-boyfriend Ariole. Domina on the other hand is contacted by the Empire, who want the Path Engine themselves.

Aphra and Sana get to Midarr before Vukorah, and are in the process of conning the auctioneer when Vukorah catches up and surrounds them all. She's unaware that the Engine isn't real, so forces the scientists there to complete it for her. This is a good time to bring up how great a character Vukorah is. We still don't know a lot about her, but it's really cool how the comic authors work together and share characters like her. She was created for the Bounty Hunters series by Ethan Sacks, and now Alyssa Wong is using her in Doctor Aphra! (There's also a theory/headcanon that she's trans, which I'm personally really rooting for!)

There's not much else to say about this issue, the series continues to be fantastic! Beyond the writing and story, the art by Minkyu Jung, Victor Olazaba, and Rachelle Rosenberg continues to be amazing and perfect for the tone of the series. This arc is not only coming to a conclusion next issue, but next issue is also a Prelude issue for the big War of the Bounty Hunters crossover that's coming up. This series already has a leg up over the other series, since it's already been crossing over with other underworld characters and concepts from Bounty Hunters. And the issue after that has Durge!!!
