After having read the Power Rangers Ranger Slayer one-shot, I’ve been itching to further explore the world of the Coinless after the defeat of Lord Drakkon. This mini-series takes us through Kimberly’s adjustment to her new role and establishes a new threat to their world.

We find Kimberly struggling with the responsibilities of her new title, determined to eradicate what remains of Drakkon’s reign. One pillar of his legacy in dire need of destruction is Drakkon’s prison tower: Deadlock. Kimberly, the coinless and Ranger guard lead a raid to free the prisoners and stumble upon something Drakkon had hoped to keep hidden away.

I had such a great time reading this issue, and not just because I love reading stories set in dystopian futures. I love the turmoil of this timeline and how much it contrasts to the Power Rangers universe we know. Anthony Burch adds a lot of personality to each character and sets up some great interactions. Adam and Scorpina really shine in this book and I hope to see more scenes with them together. Burch nails Drakkon down and gives him such a sinister flair, he is given such a sick personality, he is the embodiment of the villain you love to hate.

Simone Ragazzoni and Raúl Angulo make for a wonderful art team for this book. The action sequences have an even flow and are easy to follow. The expressions throughout this issue are priceless and so fitting, you get a sense of that youthfulness the characters had before Drakkon came along.  This is especially visible with Kim’s eye rolls and facepalms at the constant bickering of her advisors.

Burch has set up a great follow-up to Ranger Slayer and adds an air of mystery to the overall story with this new character and incoming threat. The ending of this issue is sure to have readers picking up the next chapter.
