Flash #12

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Davide Gianfelice
Colourist: Christopher Sotomayor and Ivan Plascencia

The Flash is probably one of my favorite DC rebirth books, and definitely ranks in my top 10 and it’s a shame to see that some people don’t like it because I feel that it is really everything a flash book should be. This arc uses the 2 themes of hope and trust.

Barry is teaching Wally how to be an effective Flash, which is so timely since this would also be tackled in the Flash TV show. The fact that they show that Wally’s powers slightly differ from Barry’s is one of my favourite aspects of the speedforce. I love that it does give speedsters a variation of their powers.

Another theme is trust in this issue, as Wally did struggle to vibrate himself as he felt that Barry didn’t trust him enough, and the way their relationship is advanced with something so insignificant as Barry’s name was really fun to see.

I previously complained about Gianfelice, and although he didn’t draw Kid Flash with a mask like Flash’s, but the face still looks really weird.

I personally thought this was just going to be an average filler, to get to the rogues arc, which I’m really excited about, but this arc was really good and the end of the issue reveals who Barry asks out on a date.
