Flash #7

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist:  Carmine Di Giandomenico

Admittedly although I did really enjoy the first two issues, after the rebirth issues, Flash #7 gives us what readers have been wanting and expecting from Williamson. We had just found out that August was Godspeed, and this issue deals with both how Barry copes with the fact one of his best friends had just murdered his girlfriend, Meena.

However Williamson purposely doesn’t focus on this, instead uses part of this issue to explain both Godspeed’s motives and the extent of his abilities. We as readers after this issue, do actually understand and sympathise, with Godspeed, as he doesn’t want anyone to feel that pain.

When this arc was first announced, I sighed and went ‘Oh great, another speedster’, but Williamson let’s us know that Godspeed is different. He has a strong sense of morality, but he will also do what is needed and required to get the job done, especially with the chilling moment as he phases criminals into walls. Carmine Di Giandomenico’s art just heightens this, and his art is so dynamic, it feels less like your reading a comic book and more like your watching an episode of the Flash.

However this issue is not all doom and gloom, as we are treated to the blossoming relationship between Wally and Barry. They are both able to bond over the fact that Meena was special to both of them, and this sets up the Flash, Kid Flash partnership we have been waiting for since Wally’s introduction. I cannot wait to see where it grows and how it continues, and also the way they will defeat Godspeed together.

In conclusion, Flash #7 is the penultimate issue to the Godspeed arc, an arc that I personally have really been enjoying and cannot wait to read the final issue and see how it will wrap up.
