Flash #38

Publisher: DC Comics

Flash #38 feels like the ending of Williamson’s flash run and it is a really good ending, not only for this particular arc but for a lot of what he has been doing since day one. It reconciles Barry’s whole journey from the Godspeed arc, to the Rogues arc, to the Reverse Flash arc and also the Negative Flash arc, and wraps it into a neat bow.

In the issue as many people predicted August does help Barry in the end, however this does give August a redemption arc and make him to be a much more sympathetic character. He doesn’t necessarily see what he did as wrong at first, but now after all this time he has, and this could possibly entertain the idea of August re-joining Barry as a hero.

The second half of the issue does deal more with Captain Cold’s actual plan, which was to take out Copperhead and take over Central City for himself. This focuses a lot more on Wally’s progression as Kid Flash, and how the character has really grown.

This week Joshua Williamson said that Flash War was the culmination of his run, however I feel that Flash #38 really draws on everything that he has done since the first issue of his run and gives a satisfying end. This issue also sets up plenty of interesting stuff, which gets me excited for the future of the flash.
