I would admit that I was not a huge fan of the reveal of who Mr Oz. The Jor-El theory had been going around for a while before the reveal and was really hoping it was someone else. I personally am not a huge fan of stories that bring back someone we thought was dead, and say that they actually survived, so I have to say that I was weary of the next issue.

However this issue was really good, as it gave us Jor-El’s origin which was actually both interesting and really well written. Basically it is how Jor-El fell further and further into despair. He was betrayed on Krypton, and when he arrived on Earth he was also betrayed as well. I also like the way that although he does recognize that a presence is manipulating, he feels that he it doesn’t negate the fact that humanity is bad.

The backstory on Earth was really interesting and you can understand, how someone could come to that conclusion. The only real problem with the Oz storyline, unfortunately, is that we have seen similar storylines before. This isn’t a new theme where a villain thinks that humanity is so bad and they don’t deserve the hero.

What I am really hoping is there is a further reveal, beyond his identity that changes this classic trope and makes it more interesting. Jurgens has written a strong run so far, so I am hoping that he continues to surprise and improve the story.
