I always love reading Gene Luen Yang’s New Super-man. The characters are really well written and interact really well. Like Avery was introduced in the last arc and already feels like she has been here since the start of the series. Yang gets the correct balance of mystery and fun with this book. The Justice League of China are the fun aspect and characters like Dr Omen and Master I-Ching bring the mystery element.

After really having arcs focusing on all the other characters we finally have one to focus on the Justice League of China’s Wonder Woman and in typical Wonder Woman fashion her past seems to be murky. It seems to be a trait of Wonder Woman type characters with only a few being an exception.

The China White Triad inject this stone man, who has a history with Wonder Woman, with the Doomsday Virus to make him a giant Doomsday Turtle. It is really cool that Yang is also drawing from elements of the other Superman and isn’t necessarily just making the whole Chinese aspect.

I have to say another strong issue by Yang as he also introduces some new elements and players. Like how he introduced Super-man Zero and it appears that Master I-ching has some nefarious role in the government, but we are not sure how much power he really has. This definitely stands to remain one of my favorite monthly DC books.
