“Men are idealized in comics, too.”

This is an email I got from a friend about how woman are portrayed in super hero comics these days. Thanks Alana.

I thought this was interesting and worth sharing. While the argument she's making is obvious--I'm sure we'd all agree that female comic book heroes or villans are overly sexualized--the drawings do a good job of reinforcing it and showing just how sexualized these female characters are. The drawings are great and solid support for her argument.

Notable quotes:

"Outfits that make Wonder Woman’s star spangled panties look fit for a Mormon picnic."

"...and when they pose, it’s to inspire fear, not boners."

What a great point of view; although something we all are aware of in comic books (women being overtly sexualized) - I think we have become de-sensitized to it for the most part. She mentions that there are some female super heroes/villains that have been portrayed in a less sexual manner - I would welcome some examples please because I can't think of any examples off the top of my head.
Interesting idea - would men stop reading comics if they were portrayed in this manner?
Thanks for the different perspective.
