B.P.R.D. volume 11: The Black Goddess (tpb)

If you are new to B.P.R.D. definitely don’t start with this volume.  B.P.R.D. is one series that I always recommend you start with the beginning volumes or you will be lost. This particular volume wraps up many loose ends from earlier works and would make little sense to a first time reader.

Volume 11 is of course written by the usual team of Mike Mignola and John Arcudi. They deliver an action packed adventure with this offering.  We get the long awaited conclusion to the Liz/Memnan Saa saga and a battle of epic proportions that you don’t want to miss. Along with all the action we also get the accustomed dose of mythology and history in true B.P.R.D. fashion.

The battle has the B.P.R.D. teaming up with Yetis and dragons to take on the frogs. This clash is brought to life by the incredible illustrations of Guy Davis. Davis has consistently provided perfect imagery to compliment Mignola/Arcudi’s storytelling over the years. His frightful illustrations move the story along flawlessly. His battle scenes in this volume are some of the best I’ve ever seen in B.P.R.D.

This volume is the complete package in terms of storytelling and artwork.  It’s a very rewarding chapter for long time B.P.R.D. readers as it provides some conclusions and answers to a well built up storyline. If you’ve never read B.P.R.D. it would be best to stay away from this volume but I highly recommend you start at the beginning, its ride you won’t regret.
